Yay!!! We made it through the first week of school! We've been working hard this week getting to really know each other and forming a tight knit community.
Next week, we begin giving mClass assessments to help determine each child's individual reading level. This testing will run through Sept. 23rd. Therefore, we won't be on a regular schedule until then.
Although we won't be assigning formal homework for a couple of weeks, I would like everyone to read for at least 10 minutes each night. Please encourage your child to continue bringing in favorite books to read until we determine reading levels. We are building our stamina for Read to Self, part of Daily 5.
In Reading, we will be focusing on asking and answering questions as well as summarizing. In Math, we will be working on patterns on the hundreds board, skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, and even and odd numbers. In Writing, we are working on writing meaningful, detailed sentences. We will alternate between S.S. and Science units throughout the year. We are starting with Social Studies and will be studying our community.
